What is yoga?

The word 'yoga' means 'union', 'to join', so, the definition of yoga may be: 'the union of body and mind', 'the union of man with God', 'the union with our self'… This last is for me the most appropriate definition: 'The union with our self essence'.

In ancient times, when yoga was developed in India, yoga was a philosophy school (darsana), whose most important goal was self realization, or the joint with God (Brahman).

Yoga

Nowadays, in our modern western civilization, most of people do yoga because of his benefits in health (fitness and wellness), and is known as a great discipline for body and mind.

My vision of yoga is to synthesize the ancient yoga with modern… The oriental wisdom with the western knowledge. In this blog I'm going to write about health, about psychology, about philosophy and other matters that may be useful for all of us.

There are a lot of yoga schools and types, like hatha yoga, asthanga vinyasa yoga, kundalini yoga, yoga bikram, yoga iyengar, power yoga, hot yoga… My style is made by hatha and raja yoga basically. My classes and routines are composed by:

  • Pranayama (some techniques of breathing)
  • Asanas (soft physic exercises for health and to be in shape)
  • Relaxation (for stress reduction)
  • Meditation (as mind workout and to know ourselves)
  • Study of classic books (Bhagavad gita, Yogasutras of Patanjali…)

Yoga is also 'a way of life', a complete body-mind discipline that will help us to live with more peace, more happiness and more self awareness.
